Study look into coal mining impact

A study is about to start looking at the social and economic impacts of mining and gas development in the Galilee Basin in Queensland.

Various companies are looking to develop multi-billion dollar coal mines near Alpha.

Barcaldine Mayor says the study is a partnership between local councils and the State Government. It will help to prepare in advance for the massive transformation the coal mines. They are talking around 10,000 jobs being generated during construction and then somewhere 5,000 permanent jobs which are going to be one of those economic impacts.
